What people usually ask me
Why do you charge $250 when other painters estimate for free?
Because free estimates get paid for somewhere, usually inside the quote. Charging for mine means I do six a week instead of twelve, and each one gets a real measurement and a fixed price instead of a guess. You get the $250 straight back when you book. And if the number isn't right for you, you walk away with a professional measurement and a color rendering — you spent $250 to avoid a $9,000 mistake.
What exactly does $10 per square foot include?
Surface prep, patching, caulking, priming where it's needed, two coats of finish, all materials, full floor and furniture protection, and daily cleanup. It's measured on painted surface — the actual walls, ceilings, trim and doors we coat — not the square footage of your house. Most interior projects land between $6,000 and $12,000. Heavy repairs like water damage, major drywall, or lead-safe work on pre-1978 homes get quoted separately, and you'll know about them at the estimate, not halfway through.
How long is my house going to be torn up?
Most interior projects run three to five working days. We work one room to the next so you keep the rest of your house. Start time is 8:30 unless you ask for later. Every evening the floors come clean, the tools go in one place, and you get a photo of where we ended.
What if the color is wrong once it's on the wall?
That's the exact problem the rendering solves — you see your rooms in the color before anything gets painted, so the decision happens on a screen where changing your mind is free. If you still want to switch after a wall goes up, tell us on day one and we'll re-quote that room at cost of materials. What we won't do is let you find out on the last day.
Who's actually going to be in my house, and are you insured?
Me and my own crew — not a subcontractor I met last week. Same faces every day, which is exactly why I only book two homes a month. I've been painting Austin homes for over ten years and we carry $2 million in general liability coverage; ask me at the estimate and I'll send you the certificate. If you need us to work around a nanny schedule, a dog, or a call at 2pm, say so and we'll build the day around it.
